Step 1: Check the Charger

The charger is the first thing to test. Follow this method:

Plug the charger into a power outlet without connecting it to the scooter.

Observe the indicator light on the charger:

  • Solid green → The charger works normally in idle mode. Proceed to the scooter.
  • No light / blinking red / other abnormal → The charger may be damaged. Replace it with an official Joyor charger (never use a non‑original charger – it can damage the battery).

💡 Tip: If you have another Joyor charger of the same specification, swap it for a quick cross‑test.

Step 2: Inspect the Charging Port & Wiring

If the charger is fine, check the charging port on the scooter:

  • Dirt or debris – Clean the inside of the port with a dry soft brush or compressed air.
  • Rust or corrosion – Green/white residues indicate moisture ingress. Do not disassemble yourself; contact support.
  • Loose or bent pins – Ensure the plug fits tightly and the port has no physical damage.

Step 3: Temperature Protection (One of the Most Common Causes)

Joyor lithium batteries are equipped with a Battery Management System (BMS) that blocks charging when the ambient temperature is outside the safe range.

Ambient Temperature Charging Status
Below 0°C (32°F) ❌ Blocked (BMS protection)
0°C – 45°C (32°F – 113°F) ✅ Normal charging
Above 45°C (113°F) ❌ Blocked (BMS protection)

Solution: Move the scooter indoors (15°C–25°C / 59°F–77°F) and wait 30–60 minutes for the battery to return to a safe temperature, then try charging again.

Step 4: Deep Discharge “Sleep Mode”

If the scooter has been stored without charging for 2–3 months or more, the battery may have entered a “sleep” or “false‑dead” state due to over‑discharge.

Solution:

  1. Connect the original charger.
  2. Keep it charging for 4–6 hours (even if there is no indicator reaction).
  3. If there is still no response after 6 hours, the battery may be permanently damaged and requires replacement.

⚠️ Note: Prolonged deep discharge significantly shortens battery life. We recommend charging the battery at least once a month. For more battery care tips, read our full battery care guide.

Step 5: Natural Battery Aging

Joyor lithium batteries have an average cycle life of approximately 1000 cycles (one full charge‑discharge cycle = one cycle). If your scooter has been used for several years and you notice the following, the battery may be near the end of its life:

  • Significantly reduced range (less than 50% of a new battery)
  • Charges to 100% quickly but loses power after a few minutes of riding
  • Completely unable to charge

Solution: Contact Joyor official support (info@joyor.com) to purchase a genuine replacement battery or arrange for professional replacement service.

Step 6: Error Codes on the Display

If the scooter powers on, check the display for error codes:

Code Common Meaning
E1 Controller communication fault or throttle fault
E2 Motor hall sensor fault
E3 Abnormal battery voltage or BMS fault

What to do: Note the error code, then power cycle the scooter (turn off and on again). If the code reappears, contact technical support with the code.

Step 7: When to Contact Official Support?

If the problem persists after completing all the steps above, please reach out to Joyor’s Lifetime Customer Support:

📧 Email: info@joyor.com
📝 Please include in your email:

  • Order number or proof of purchase
  • Scooter model (e.g., S10-S-Z, T10, Y8‑S)
  • Problem description (charger light status, any error codes on display, any exposure to water or crash)
  • Ideally a short video or photo showing the charging behaviour

Our technical team will reply within 1–2 business days.

Daily Care Tips to Prevent Charging Issues

Following these habits will greatly reduce the chance of charging‑related problems:

“Cool down for 30 minutes” – After riding, let the scooter rest for at least 30 minutes to cool down before charging.
Partial charge, partial discharge – Keep the battery between 20% and 80% for daily use. Avoid fully draining or fully charging every time.
Use only the original charger – An incompatible charger is the #1 cause of BMS damage.
Avoid extreme temperatures while charging – Don’t charge immediately after riding under hot sun or in freezing conditions.
Long‑term storage – Keep the battery at 50% – 60% charge, store in a cool dry place, and recharge at least once a month.
Keep it dry – Prevent water ingress into the charging port and battery compartment. If you ride in the rain, let everything dry thoroughly before charging.
