Joyor Cost of Ownership: How Much Does It Really Cost to Ride for a Year?

You’ve seen the price tag on a Joyor scooter. But that’s not the full story.

What about electricity? Tyre replacements? Brake pads? Insurance?

I tracked every expense on my Joyor S10-S-Z for 12 months of daily commuting (about 15 km per day, 5 days a week). Here’s what it actually costs to own one.

The Big Categories

Over 12 months, I spent money in four main areas:

Electricity – Charging the battery every night.

Tyres – One puncture repair, one set of replacements.

Brakes – One set of brake pads.

Insurance – Required in Germany, optional elsewhere.

Electricity – The Surprising Winner

Charging a Joyor scooter costs very little. The battery is about 0.6 kWh. At the average EU electricity price (around €0.25 per kWh), a full charge costs about €0.15.

Riding 15 km per day, 5 days a week = 75 km per week = about 3 full charges = €0.45 per week.

Yearly total: around €23. That’s less than a month of public transport in most European cities.

Tyres – The Biggest Variable

Tyres are where costs can surprise you. In 12 months:

  • One puncture repair – about €15-20 at a shop (or €8 for a DIY patch kit)
  • One set of replacement tyres (both wheels) – about €40-60 for genuine Joyor tyres

Yearly total: around €55-80 depending on how many flats you get. Keeping tyres properly inflated reduces puncture risk significantly.

Brake Pads – Small but Regular

Brake pads wear down with use. On a Joyor scooter, expect to replace them every 800-1200 km depending on your riding style and terrain.

In 12 months of daily commuting, I went through one set of disc brake pads.

Cost: around €15-25 for a genuine set.

Insurance – Country Dependent

If you live in Germany, insurance is mandatory. A basic e-scooter policy costs about €30-60 per year. In France, Spain, or the UK, it’s optional – but highly recommended for liability coverage.

Yearly total: €0-60 depending on your country.

The Bottom Line – Full Year Total

Adding it all up for a typical year:

Expense Cost (€)
Electricity ~23
Tyres (repairs + replacement) ~55-80
Brake pads ~15-25
Insurance (if required) ~0-60
TOTAL ~€90-190 per year

That’s about €7-16 per month – cheaper than a daily coffee.

Compare this to a monthly public transport pass (€50-100) or a car (€300+ monthly for fuel, insurance, tax, and maintenance). A Joyor scooter pays for itself within months.

How to Keep Costs Even Lower

  • Check tyre pressure weekly – underinflated tyres puncture more easily and reduce range
  • Don’t overcharge – unplug within 1-2 hours after full charge to preserve battery life
  • Clean your scooter regularly – dirt on the brakes and moving parts causes extra wear
  • Ride smoothly – hard acceleration and sudden braking wear out tyres and brakes faster

FAQ – Joyor Running Costs

Q1: How much does it cost to replace a Joyor battery?

A genuine Joyor replacement battery costs around €150-300 depending on the model. With proper care, the battery should last 3-5 years, so you can spread this cost over time.

Q2: Is Joyor cheaper than public transport?

Yes – by a lot. A monthly public transport pass in most European cities costs €50-100. A Joyor costs about €7-16 per month to run. Even if you factor in the purchase price, it pays for itself within 6-12 months of daily commuting.

Q3: Do I really need insurance for my Joyor?

In Germany, yes – it’s legally required. In other European countries, it’s optional but strongly recommended. A third-party liability policy covers you if you accidentally damage someone else’s property or injure a pedestrian. It costs very little and gives you peace of mind.
